MRT out of Changi.
Our first MRT ride into the
city. The trains are pretty long. Much longer then our
LRT.
Rush hour.
Arriving at our first stop at
the Bugis Street MRT Station.
The sun shines on Singapore.
That would be the morning sunrise. We arrived pretty
early in the city at around 8am. Traffic around the city
wasn't heavy yet and I don't ever think it will. I
haven't seen a traffic jam anywhere on the island
before.
Lasalle College of Arts
. Our first stop in McNally
Street which was near Bugis Street. Now that is one cool
arts school. Amazing architecture.
Reminds me of Hogwarts.
It really does! The zig zag
bridges and all that crooked walls is so reminiscence of
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Then again,
this is still a super cool environment for a enriching
creative education.
Yep, we were there!
The requisite pose.
The vast building makes us look
tiny.
The central court yard in them
middle of the school - a perfect place to sit and ponder
the world.
Architecture shots.
I have always been
an architecture aficionado and this block of flats
caught my attention. The triangular balconies were
pretty interesting. And thus, I aimed my camera on
building facades around the streets.
Crystals.
That is a very interesting
facade. Composed on many fiber glass crystals
that lights up at night. I will definitely come
down later in the evening to catch the light
show.
Lego.
If Lasalle College of Arts
reminded me of Hogwarts, then this building reminded me
of Lego bricks...:) Just kidding but it is a super cool
facade anyhow.
The Toy Museum.
Our next stop at
Mint - Museum of Toys. Yea, I love toys and
apparently, this museum is touted to hold a large
collection of toys from over 25 countries in the last
100 years. The museum lobby doubles up as a merchandise
store with lots and lots of teddy bears, lollipops,
stickers, wrapping paper, sugar coated candies, gum,
balloons, more soft toys and other funky items. If you
are a sucker for such stuff, then getting to the counter
at the end of the corridor can be quite tough as you
will be instantly distracted along the way. The museum
staff were friendly and helpful and I do like that giant
santa clause. Apparently it was an inflatable giant
santa clause. Entrance fees into the museum was about 15
Sg dollars per adult.
Toys & candy. An evil
combination plotted by those in power.
I was simply tempted by that
green gooey stuff. Its called "Crazy Slime." Hmm......
Clear, simple and concise.
I loved the museum graphics and
way finding signage's. Straight to the point and direct
with bold text just in case you can't see clearly.
Lovely. As you can see, the museum was divided into 4
major categories - toys from outer space, character
based toys, everyone's childhood companion as well as
collectable items.
Check out that display.
This glass display showcase
holds a stunning collection of tin robots from the
past century. If you were wondering what tin robots are,
it is really robots made out of metal which were popular
when our dads were kids. What surprised me was that the
museum could actually fill up every single available
display space on each shelf with tin robots. Apparently,
tin robots have a long history too.
The Jetson Family flew one of
this.
This was the Outer Space section
of the museum with lots of spacecraft and StarWars
action figures.
4000 USD.
There is an estimated value for
each toy on display. This tank is said to be worth 4000
US Dollars. Right now, I am digging out all my old toys
for a value estimation. I wonder how much my M16 Plastic
Rifle would go for on the international toy market?
Pinocchio.
Don't worry, he can't lie.
Matchbox toy cars!!!!
I honestly never knew that all
those Matchbox cars I played with had such a long
history. And they were once sold in match boxes! Hence
the name I suppose. Simple retro cars from yesteryears.
They even had a World War Two Army series.
Homage to the Beatles.
The fabulous four gets a place
of honor in the museum as well.
Popeye's there too.
Every famous character from our
childhood days made an appearance at the museum. If you
were born in the 90s, you may not recognize a majority
of the toys but if you were a 70s or 80s baby then you
will have a field time identifying the toys that you
have once played with. A great place for a trip down
memory lane into our childhood years.
MOS Burger !!.
This is a Japanese burger chain
that has not reached Malaysian shores yet. Till this
day, I am still wondering why is that so. Anyhow, Mos
Burger serves delectable burgers that are not too heavy
in size and yet are pretty filling.
MOS Burger !!.
It is your regular fast food
chain store so all the essentials are there. Except that
the selection at MOS Burger exceeds that of Burger King
in my opinion. More variety and greater selection as
well as choices for the whole family !
MOS Burger !!.
That's the Unagi rice burger
set. Since its Japanese and all, I thought it is only
proper to order a Japanese burger. What's a rice burger?
MOS Burger !!.
It's well, a burger with rice as
the bun with Unagi fish as the meat. Rice as the bun!
Why haven't I thought of that. If you think about it,
its really like a Bento set only that its wrapped as a
burger. Pretty cool stuff from Mos Burger. Stay tuned
for Part 3: Singapore
Magnified - Ion Orchard.

The unagi rice burger is really interesting...its a way where u don't have to sit and eat a bento set....u can just munch it while ur walking around. ;) innovative indeed. now, if only they have a salmon sashimi rice burger, or a butterfish rice burger or tempura rice burger....
